Join Jonathan Knight and The Trevor Project to End Conversion Therapy

It’s sad to see we need organizations and campaigns to change things that shouldn’t be happening in first place; “Conversion therapy”? A so-called therapy to change someone’s sexual orientation, by running electricity through their bodies? … Yes…

Sometimes I feel like going back to the Law, only to pass a bill so that racists and these mentally sick people with inhuman thoughts, can be treated as a danger to society” and, consequently, be putted away; and hey, “conversion therapy for them.”

We’ve been following Jon’s journey supporting causes like these for years; on 2010, in response to a tweet, Jon said,

“My favorites are Alex’s Lemonade, Habitat For Humanity, and The Trevor Project all three hold a special place in my heart for what they do!”

Jon Knight, Apr 15, 2010

On 2012 (Sep 6), Jon took the #TalkToMeTrevor promise for that year’s Trevor Project’s Day and for the National Suicide Prevention Month. Later on November, Jon participated in the Celeb Charity Challenge supporting The Trevor Project.

The other New Kids had won the challenge before, supporting their own charities: Donnie Wahlberg, supporting “some” on July 19; Danny Wood supporting Remember Betty on August 16; Joey McIntyre for Alzheimer’s Association on August 23; and Jordan Knight for Dancing for Hope, on August 30.

Today, Jon joined a remarkable campaign that The Trevor Project is working on this year, the “50 Bills 50 states, TREVOR’s Campaign to End Conversion Therapy.”

What is The Trevor Project?

The Trevor Project, is The world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth; it was founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award winning short film “Trevor;” produced by Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone, and written by James Lecesne – is an 18 minutes film that we all need to watch.

The Film “Trevor” is available on YouTube, and right here ?.

This year, The Trevor Project is working on a bill regarding “conversion therapy.” And what is this?

Conversion therapy, which is “sometimes referred to as ‘reparative therapy,’ is any of several dangerous and discredited practices aimed at changing an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Conversion therapists use a variety of shaming, emotionally traumatic or physically painful stimuli to make their victims associate those stimuli with their LGBTQ identities.”(*)

What Is the 50 Bill 50 States Campaign?

This year, the Trevor Project will lead the effort to end conversion therapy with the “50 Bills 50 States Campaign; which means that they will work – with our help, with your help – to get every single state in the United States to submit a bill to protect LGBTQ youth from conversion therapy.
