Fresh off the press! Earlier today, Donnie Wahlberg and NKOTB gave us a hint that something was about to be announced, but right before midnight, the American Music Awards released on Twitter the most shocking news and a dream come true: the New Kids On The Block and New Edition are going to share the stage at the upcoming AMAs’ ceremony on November 21.
The New Kids On The Block won two American Music Awards in 1990: one for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo, or Group and another one for Favorite Pop/Rock Album (Hangin’ Tough); the next year, they were nominated again for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, a category they shared with Bell Biv DeVoe and … “Aerosmith,” who won.
They performed at the AMAs three times: in 1990, they did a Medley (“Cover Girl”, “Hangin’ Tough”, “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” and “This One’s For The Children”); in 1991, with Flavor Flav, they performed “Games”; then ten years later, they came back with the Backstreet Boys as NKOTBSB.
Another ten years later, they’ll be back! But the question is, who’s going to join Bell Biv DeVoe to form the disbanded New Edition?
New Edition was formed in 1978 with Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe, (“Bell Biv DeVoe” since 1989), Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown; in 1985 Brown left the band and two years later Johnny Gill filled in.
For the New Kids On The Block, New Edition is the boyband which “paved the way” for them, as Donnie mentioned after having shared the stage with BBD at Fenway Park this past August, and they have worked together before.

In 2008, New Edition recorded with the New Kids On The Block “Full Service” for the album “The Block.” The following year, NKOTB did a charity show in Boston (House of Blues on December 20) and during that concert, Ricky Bell (BBD) and Johnny Gill (New Edition) joined them onstage to perform “Full Service” and “This One’s for the Children”.

On Thursday, the New Kids On The Block finally shared the news, and Donnie Wahlberg confirmed that both Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill are going to join BBD.
The guys also shared their excitement on social media:
““Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike — plus Ralph, Johnny, Donnie, Jordan, Joey, Danny and Jon!”. @newedition and @nkotb together on stage for the first time — ever! Wish I could sit in the audience watching a childhood dream come true — when @nkotb perform with our inspirations and idols, who paved the way for us, @newedition — but I’ll be busy on stage giving thanks and having a ball!”

As many a #blockheadhave said when we met: “My 13 year old self is dying right now!!” Well… Yeah. That!!!! Omg y’all. “Is this really for real??” (Actually said that on a record when I was 13 😄) Can’t believe we are going to share the stage with our hometown heroes

NKOTBBD at Fenway Park was epic; but this, New Kids On The Block and New Edition sharing the stage at the American Music Awards, this is our chance to witness one of the (if not “the”) greatest moments in the history of boybands.
